Project Details:

This design and build project comprised conversion and refurbishment of a 1960s, 18-storey office building into a 242-bedroom student accommodation block. Located in the centre of Portsmouth a few hundred feet from the waters of Portsmouth Harbour, with views over the Solent. Europa House is in close proximity to tourist attractions, retail and commercial properties, with the site shared by an operational car park and a pub.

The project comprised works to the upper 12 storeys of the tower and works to the four-storey annexe and single-storey link buildings. Works included repairs to the concrete structural and external wall panels, construction of associated communal facilities, hard and soft landscaping and infrastructure works.

The finished project features an on-site gym, a cinema, laundry facilities, bike storage, and communal and study areas. The tower is situated over a six-storey car park, which remained open throughout the works, requiring significant logistics management. Midas liaised with all affected neighbours regarding shared use of the access roads and impact from deliveries, with partial road closures implemented during works and full site hoarding, with temporary works designed to manage the exposure rating of the site from its costal location.
