The project included the partial demolition, reconstruction and refurbishment of an existing college building (old shoe factory). The facilities in the completed two-storey building include multi-use teaching space with science laboratories, IT suites, motor vehicle workshop, youth and learning disability amenities and a car park. The construction of extra science laboratories was added to the scope of works post-commencement, along with refurbishment works in an adjacent building. £250,000 of value engineering savings were incorporated into the main phase 1 scheme, and were used for additional conversion of workshops to solve an accessibility problem for college. A decision was made to enhance the BREEAM rating from Very Good to Excellent allowing the college to apply for additional funding from DoE.
