Complete renovation of 302 Housing Association Properties in Plymouth

Project summary

  • Region: Devon
  • Value: £15,000,000
  • Contract length: 4 years
  • Procurement: Traditional with Design Portion Supplement
  • Completed: LIVE PROJECT
  • Site features and challenges: A significant success within the project was when Mi-space identified a route for obtaining £750,000 of CESP funding that PCH had previously been unable to unlock. Although the funds had to be put to use within a very tight timescales and very difficult weather conditions hampered the work, the programme was achieved to the satisfaction of the client and the residents.
  • Community: The North Prospect community is one of the most deprived areas of Plymouth, so a significant factor in this project is the provision of employment and training opportunities for local people. Not only has Mi-space taken on local people as employees, but we have also encouraged and supported local specialist subcontractors on the project to take on trainees themselves.

This is a project to completely refurbish 302 properties in the North Prospect Estate in Plymouth. The refurbishments are very comprehensive. Besides replacing roofs, windows and doors, the project includes providing loft insulation and cladding the external walls with insulating panels. These measures bring the fabric of the houses up to a modern standard, and help the residents to stay warm while reducing their heating bills. Internal refurbishments include rewiring, installation of new kitchens, new bathrooms (a number with adaptations for disabled residents) and new heating systems.
