Bott Factory Extension, Bude

Project Summary

  • Region: Cornwall
  • Value: £0.6m
  • Contract Term: JCT
  • Contract Length: 18 weeks
  • Procurement: Negotiated
  • Completed: October 2015

This project comprised the construction of a new single storey extension to the existing occupied factory to create an area to produce metalwork to fit out vans.

The building is a steel portal frame construction with built-up cladding and roof, fair faced blockwork and ground bearing concrete slab floor. The cladding used was a Euroseam twin skin build up system with HPS200 ultra coating and the roof installation was trapezoidal tin. Once the new extension was made watertight and secure, the existing gable wall to the original factory was dismantled one square at a time. The cladding rails were dismantled using scissor lifts and gable steel columns were removed to fully open up the space into the existing live factory. To ensure a clean floor join, a break was cut into the concrete floor between the old and new for a small concrete pour to bring the two floors together.

Works also included the installation of PVs on the roof. Externally, works included rearrangement of the fire escape stairwell and making good of the ground.
