New Neighbourhood for Cornwall as Mi-space Announces Quintrell Downs Development
A new Cornish neighbourhood is due to take shape after Mi-space announced work on the multi-million pound scheme.
The development of 140 properties at Quintrell Downs, near Newquay, aims to give local people the opportunity to take their first step on to the property ladder. Created for customer Coastline Housing, it will include 30 shared ownership homes and 61 affordable rent or rent to buy properties. The new neighbourhood will also boast 49 open market homes.
Mi-space, is due to begin construction works in the coming weeks. When complete, the £18.5million project will include pedestrian, cycle and public transport links to the surrounding area.
The 31-month scheme continues the strong relationship between Coastline Housing and Mi-space. The specialist housing contractor recently completed a scheme of 75 new affordable homes at Higher Nansloe, Helston for the housing authority; and previously redeveloped an industrial site in Redruth into 10 affordable homes. Both schemes saw Mi-space receive high customer satisfaction scores.
David Pengelly, Operational Director for Mi-space, said: “We are pleased to be continuing our relationship with Coastline Housing and building high quality new homes for Cornish people.
“Creating lasting relationships and leaving positive legacies in the communities where we live and work are key to our vision to be leaders in customer service and performance.”
David added that the project will enable Mi-space to continue to support Coastline Housing’s pioneering back-to-work training scheme, Coastline Construct.
The programme offers local people a chance to obtain their CSCS card, have training in trade skills and gain real life work experience on a live construction site.
The back-to-work programme was designed to help unemployed people gain skills to help them secure employment in the construction industry.
Bee Rowley, from Coastline Housing, said: “We are really excited to be partnering with Mi-space again to deliver Coastline Construct at Quintrell Downs. Alongside enabling members of the local community to gain CSCS cards and on-site trade experience, the programme creates links between community organisations, and ensures that those who move into the completed houses are joining a community that has been built on collaboration and shared experiences.”
